Chevrolet is introducing a new performance version of the brand’s popular full-size SUV.

It may not quite a full-fledged performance monster. But the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Edition is more than just a badge and paint upgrade.

More Grunt from a Familiar Source

Under the hood is the same 6.2-liter V-8 found in many Tahoe RST models. But with a few tweaks to the intake and exhaust systems, Chevrolet has squeaked out 13 more horsepower and an additional 7 lb-ft of torque. That bumps the small block’s output to a total of 433 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque.

Paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission, the brand claims the Performance Edition can rip from 0 to 60 mph in 5.78 seconds, on way to a 14.42 second quarter mile. That’s about a 0.2 second improvement over regular RST models in both the 0 to 60 and quarter-mile runs. Top speed is also up 12 mph to 124 mph.

Cop Shocks, Brembo Brakes

The RST Performance also receives suspension and brake upgrades. The main source for much of the suspension enhancements comes from the Tahoe PPV, which is the police spec of the big SUV. Upgrades include police-spec springs, retuned dampers, a larger-diameter stabilizer bar and police-spec chassis calibrations. This lowers ride height 0.4-inches (10 mm) in the front and 0.8-inches (20 mm) in the rear.

A special set of Brembo brakes front and rear with red painted calipers are responsible for reigning in the additional performance. The front rotors are roughly 25% larger in diameter than regular Tahoes. Chevrolet claims the vehicle can stop from 60 to 0 mph in 133 feet, over 6 feet shorter than regular RST models.

Still a Tahoe Otherwise

None of the upgrades prohibit the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Edition from doing regular SUV things, as it’s still rated to tow upwards of 7,600-pounds. The Performance Edition also comes standard with the luxury package and sport pedals. On the exterior, a black “RST” badge helps passersby know this is not a regular Tahoe.

Pricing for this special edition package will cost an additional $8,525 and will be exclusively available on the 2023 Tahoe RST with the 6.2L V-8 engine. Production will begin in Q4 of 2022.
