The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV should qualify for a tax credit.

Mercedes-Benz’s midsized fully-electric SUV, the EQE SUV, is nearly out. We’ve finally got some pricing on the new model, the base model starts at $77,900, not including the $1,150 destination fee. This is for the cheapest EQE 350+ SUV, in Premium trim. Interestingly, the next model up, the EQE 350+ in Exclusive trim, starts at a flat $80,000, which is the max price an SUV can be and still qualify for the plug-in tax credit. Because the EQE SUV is made in Alabama, it should qualify for at least part of the new tax credit rules put out by the Inflation Reduction Act.

Also, AWD (4MATIC, in Mercedes-Benz speak) is a no-cost option, no matter the trim level. The 4MATIC adds a second motor, on the front axle. On the EQE350+ models, the total output of 288 horsepower stays the same, but the torque jumps to a whopping 517 ft/lbs of torque, up from 417 ft/lbs. Mercedes-Benz says the extra motor doesn’t change performance much, but in theory, it could affect range. We won’t know until Mercedes-Benz releases official range numbers for the EQE SUV in all its trims.

The topmost trim, the Pinnacle, starts at $83,850 in 350+ trim, or $95,450 in EQE 500 4MATIC guise. The EQE 500 is a dual-motor setup, good for 536 horsepower. It’s also available in the mid-trimmed Exclusive ($91,600), as well.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV will arrive in dealerships this spring.
