The 2024 Hyundai Sonata: Aggressive Design, Monobrow Headlight, Curved Panoramic Screens

Hyundai’s midsized sedan gets a new look for 2024.

Spicy, spicy, spicy. At least, spicy, is what Hyundai calls its refreshed midsized sedan for 2024. Hyundai has kicked the Sonata’s design up a few notches, even further than the already cutting-edge current shape. Hyundai says this new design is its sportiest Sonata ever.

Underneath, it’s a heavy refresh of the current generation Sonata, sharing much of its middle and roof with the old car. However, the front and rear fascias have been dramatically altered, for a far more aggressive appearance. In the front, the seashell-shaped front grille and headlights that gave way to daytime running lights that blended into a chrome trim piece, are now gone. In its place, Hyundai has implemented a similar front fascia to what we’ve seen on the new Kona and Korean-market Avante (Elantra). A glowing monobrow that Hyundai calls the “Seamless Horizon Headlamp” makes up the top half of the front fascia, and a revised, very aggressive lower valance makes up the bottom half of the front fascia. The rear end is changed too, with a similarly aggressive lower bumper, and H-shaped taillights that we’ve seen on other Hyundai models.

The interior is dramatically changed, too. The whole top half of the dashboard is all new, now including a freestanding 12.3” panoramic, curved twin-screen layout that controls both infotainment and the gauge cluster. The gear shifter has been moved from the console to the column, similar to what we’ve seen in the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Hyundai hasn’t revealed any specific performance or mechanical updates the new Sonata will entail. We expect the Sonata will likely continue on with the same array of turbocharged, naturally-aspirated, and hybrid options as found in the current car. We don’t have an official North American release date, but Hyundai says the actual model will be on display at the Seoul Mobility Show, which starts on March 30.
