While most other companies only offer vehicle protection plans, Mercury Insurance Group underwrites multiple forms of protection. Mercury extended warranty plans are available in 11 states, the most popular of which is California. The difference between a vehicle protection plan and mechanical breakdown insurance is that the latter is regulated by the state insurance commissioner, and in select states like California, vehicle protection plans can only be bought through dealerships.

A Mercury extended warranty can cover your vehicle when it breaks down due to engine failure, transmission problems, or electrical system failure. Mercury coverage limits are available up to 7 years or 100,000 miles. Cars that are still within the factory warranty period can be covered.

Extended warranties from Mercury do not cover routine maintenance, damages due to wear and tear, or misuse by owners. Pre-existing conditions are also not covered.

With a Mercury extended warranty, you can get full coverage for your vehicle, coverage only for your vehicle’s essential parts and systems, and a few options in between.

Compared to other warranty companies, the Mercury extended warranty cost is about average. We called Mercury for a quote for a 2013 Subaru Forester with 50,000 miles and were offered a comprehensive plan for $2,785 upfront. Unlike most extended warranties, monthly payments were not available.

What’s interesting is that Mercury offered us the Deluxe plan, which is not listed on its website. It was pitched as a combination between the Gold plan and exclusionary coverage. Here are the details:

Mercury Insurance Group holds an A+ Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating, which is a good indication that Mercury is a reliable provider. Similarly, the company has a 4.5-star rating on TrustPilot (although there are very few reviews). However, most of the reviews posted online are about the company’s insurance offerings rather than Mercury extended warranty plans.

This makes it difficult to gauge the coverage and claims process you can expect from a Mercury warranty, but it’s still valuable to read a few of these reviews focused on service.

Positive reviews praise customer service and sales representatives, long-term customer satisfaction, and Mercury’s money-saving capabilities. Negative reviews include complaints about rude agents, hidden fees, and slow claims servicing.
