Infiniti has announced it will build an electric vehicle based on the Q Inspiration Concept’s platform – one of five vehicles it will build in China over the next five years.

Styling wise, the vehicle will be directly influenced by the Q Inspiration Concept, as will all future vehicles in the Infiniti portfolio.

It’s not clear what size of battery the production EV will have, how many motors it will feature, or how much power it will make. But with Renault-Nissan having access to the hybrid Formula 1 development program through Renault Sport, as well as Formula E’s through Nismo, we’re expecting big things from this new EV platform. Nissan is also no stranger to production EVs thanks to the Leaf.

For now, Infiniti is only talking about how the electric platform’s different dimensions will allow them to experiment with styling.

“The Q Inspiration concept car takes the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution,” said Infiniti design boss Karim Habib. “A shift towards smarter, more compact and less intrusive powertrains; we were able to create an alternative form with flowing gestures, more engaging in character and more enriching in experience. With its long cabin, balanced proportions and muscular stance, the concept heralds in a new era for Infiniti models.”

Infiniti has not yet said where in China the vehicle will be built. We’ll have more information on this Japanese luxury EV when it becomes available.
