The New Corvette ZR1 is Basically Just Carbon Fiber and Big Wings

We know many things about the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette ZR1…

For example, we know we don’t know what engine Chevrolet’s crack team of Corvette engineers have crammed under the C7’s bulbous hood — it could be a more wanton version of the Z06’s supercharged LT4 V8, or it could be the new LT5 DOHC V8 that one guy at the car show is totally positive exists.

We also definitely know we don’t know how much downforce is being generated by the Boeing-sized rear wing and front splitter – let alone if they’re of active variety. Other facts include definite knowledge we didn’t know anything about what kind of interior the ZR1 might get, or if it would be a manual-only affair.

Thankfully, we can start asking questions again, as the latest round of spy shots give us our first look at the clandestine C7’s production interior. The biggest change happening inside the cabin is the addition of a carbon fiber face plate to the canted driver’s cockpit. Mysteriously, this Corvette mule was spotted with an automatic transmission, most likely GM’s new 10-speed automatic, as opposed to the hyper track-focused Camaro ZL1 1LE, which is exclusively row-it-yourself.

Piling on the perplexity, this is the first time the ZR1’s bigger GT-style wing has shown up paired with a convertible top. To date, we’ve only seen convertible mules with the smaller deck wing, fueling beliefs the aero package will be optional.

Lastly, we’re positive the Corvette ZR1 will make its debut somewhere, we can even tell you we know we don’t know where that will be.
