Chevrolet’s little SUV received a complete overhaul. No longer tall and short, the lower roofline and much longer wheelbase give the latest Trax a more wagon-like profile. It’s only available with front-wheel drive, as this is the least expensive model in Chevrolet’s lineup.

Power comes from a 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that may look low on power on paper, but thanks to plenty of torque, operates quite well on the road.

What Does the Chevrolet Trax Compete With?

If there’s a “Most Improved” award for this year’s crop of cars, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax clinches it.

The littlest Bow Tie crossover went from a frumpy lump to a stylish long-roof this year. With a simplified, front-drive-only powertrain lineup, the Trax has become spacious and comfortable, all while being something of a deal. Even the top trim barely crests $27,000 ($31,000 CAD) including destination.

We called the Chevrolet Trax one of the best vehicles for the price in our recent review. It’s so good, in fact, that the Trax can—and should—be compared to vehicles outside of its own sub-compact SUV segment. Here’s a short list of the vehicles you should be cross-shopping against the Chevrolet Trax.

2024 Chevrolet Trax Activ Review: Bow Tie Bargain

Chevrolet might not be cornering the SUV market, but it is successfully bookending it.

At the far end of the scale, the brand has long dominated the full-size, body-on-frame scene with the one-two punch of Tahoe and Suburban. (That success looks set to continue for 2025, too.) The smaller segment is tougher, a traditional stronghold for import brands.

That could change, as the 2024 Chevrolet Trax is easily the best choice in its segment. Not only does it bring to the table plenty of space, tech, and safety features, but it does so with a polished driving experience and unbeatable pricing. Nevermind the littlest SUVs: the Civic and Corolla should watch out, too.

2024 Chevrolet Trax Review: First Drive

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax might be Chevy’s most improved model, ever. Stylish and reasonably priced, this alluring crossover might be good enough to make you forget that you can’t get AWD.

The small SUV segment is kind of an awkward little market, isn’t it? The segment is full-to-bursting with competitors, with many automakers offering several entries in the same segment. Yet, most of these models find happy buyers, the market can’t get enough of these tiny crossovers. Just take the Chevy Trax, it was once an ugly duckling that seemed to sell in spite of its styling and mediocre value proposition. Now, the crossover has now been transformed into a stylish hunk of sheet metal that just might be the most compelling offering GM currently has on sale across all of its brands.

2024 Chevrolet Trax Gets More Car-Like, Better Overall

When opening the first embargoed images of the new-for-2024 Chevrolet Trax on my PC, a thought entered my head almost immediately.

“Holy geez” I thought.

“This thing’s a looker!”

Chevy’s smallest SUV offering gets a total overhaul for model-year 2024, complete with an angular new Blazer-inspired look that concentrates a boatload of styling touches into a compact package for a concentrated visual punch. The new Trax sits a full 4 inches lower than the outgoing model, giving the machine an all-new profile and stance that contributes to a compact-but-muscular look.
