In a sea of custom Scion FR-S’ and Subaru BRZs at the 2012 SEMA Show, it’s surprisingly hard to compile a list of the top 10 without some criteria. So to compile our list of favorites, we decided to look at all the 86s and judge based on cleanliness, originality, and functionality – and of course, how it looked on the show floor.

During the unveiling of the Stout Racing Pirelli World Challenge Scion FR-S today at the 2012 SEMA Show, the folks at Scion had a surprise for everyone present.

The Stout Racing Scion FR-S, which will compete in the SCCA World Challenge series next year, was unveiled today at the 2012 SEMA Show.

Almost a week since the Scion FR-S Tuner Challenge competitors were revealed, the Japanese automaker has picked a winner at the 2012 SEMA Show: Chris Basselgia. Basselgia, builder of the Minty FReSh Scion FR-S took home the top prize of $10,000 while John Toca’s FR-S came in second and Daniel Song’s FR-S GT came in third.

The Scion booth at this year’s SEMA Show is ground zero for the FR-S revolution that’s taking place and the venue for the Scion Tuner Challenge.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, we have a lot to say on just how popular the new Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ is at the 2012 SEMA Show.

By now, the only surprise for the Scion FR-S cars in the Japanese automaker’s booth at the 2012 SEMA Show was how each would look when compared side-by-side.

What exactly is so mysterious about the Vortech Supercharged Scion FR-S? The power output of course.

Recognized for being the most popular platforms for customization in their segment, the Ford Mustang, Scion FR-S, Jeep Wrangler and Ford F-Series trucks have each just won been awarded a SEMA “hottest car” award. 

The numbers have been tallied and the data compiled in Consumer Reports’ latest Auto Reliability Survey. Toyota has a lot to be happy about but Ford has taken a tumble.

Ahead of the 2012 SEMA Show, Scion held a private party in Los Angeles where the automaker unveiled its custom vehicles that are heading to Las Vegas this year. The trio of  Scion FR-S Tuner Challenge vehicles were present, along with four other customized Scion FR-S models, all sporting a different theme.

Young? Artsy? Money hungry? Then Scion has your ticket; the brand is giving away money, cars and mentors to people who fit the bill.

Earlier in the week, Scion released a teaser video kicking off its 2012 SEMA Show FR-S Tuner Challenge. Now the Japanese automaker has released the first preview of the three cars vying for top honors.

Toyo Tires will be heading to the 2012 SEMA Show with a little bit of everything in its lineup this year: A custom Ford Raptor, a Wald Black Bison Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, a Wald Scion FR-S, and a Liberty Walk Lamborghini Murcielago LP620.

The 2013 Scion iQ EV just hit the U.S. albeit in very short supply, and is only being used for car sharing programs in urban environments.

Scion has announced a bargain $99 per month lease rate for its iQ mini car, hoping to boost deliveries as competition in the segment grows with Chevrolet’s recently released Spark off to a strong start.

The Scion FR-S will be joining the ranks of the GTS class in the Pirelli World Challenge series next year, with Robert Stout behind the wheel.

The Toyota GT86 or Scion FR-S as it’s known on our shores may just be the best new sports car in a generation, but it certainly won’t be the last of its kind. According to chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, the FR-S is just the first of three planned sports cars by the world’s largest automaker.

It’s well documented just how great the Scion FR-S handles on the road and on the track, and those lucky enough to own one just know how fun it is to drive on a daily basis.

It’s now been three months of Scion FR-S ownership, and while it has been fun, there have been a few hiccups along the way. The car isn’t perfect and within a month I noticed some annoying teething issues.

Thankfully, there have been some updates in regards to a pair of nagging issues with the FR-S – though no solid solutions.

The Scion brand was created from the get go to attract a younger, hipper audience. At its core, Scion has always been about customization and personalization, as a way to express yourself through your car.

The Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ are undoubtedly great sports cars, but not every owner has been able to enjoy them as much as they’d like. Many owners have taken to the Internet to express complaints regarding a check engine light, slip light, and idle issue on their new cars.

First generation cars tend to have some teething issues, and Scion‘s latest baby, the FR-S is not without it’s quirks. Owners of the FR-S can breathe a little easier thanks to a new technical service bulletin (TSB) that resolves an annoying noise emitted by the car.

Among the many unusual cars sitting on the Paris Motor Show floor, at least one is certain for production albeit in small numbers: the Scion iQ EV.

Previewing the parts to (hopefully) come for North America’s Scion FR-S, the Toyota GT86 TRD is making an appearance at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.

What if I was all wrong? I ask myself this very question every time someone asks me why I got my Scion instead of the Subaru. This past week I got the chance to do it all over again with the exact opposite choices I made with my own car.
